Set amidst an acacia grove and against the backdrop of stunning Mount Meru, Olerai Lodge exists in harmony with the immense beauty of Tanzania. Once a private residence built between the vibrant green of the wilderness and the quaint charm of local farms, the property has since been transformed into an oasis for traveling guests. Great care has been taken to ensure that the improvements and extensions are in keeping not only with the property’s original colonial aesthetic, but also to conserve the surrounding wilderness. Here, you’ll experience the delicious fusion of African and European style.
Guests will begin their safari immediately after check-in, with a variety of wildlife including monkeys, porcupines, and honey badgers calling the surrounding grasslands home. Birders are also in for a real treat, as the variety of birds in the area is stunning. Whether lounging by the pool, wandering one of the various nature trails, dining in our signature restaurant, or soaking in the quiet from your room, you’ll feel very much at the heart of Africa.
Kuro Tarangire
Kuro Tarangire is set amid a grove of Acacia and Kigelia trees close to the Tarangire River – often a dry, sandy course snaking through this quiet area of the park. The area sees the rhythmic movement of wildlife as it traverses the park from the hills in the west to the swamps on the eastern side. Conscious of wanting to experience this place in a way that harmonizes with the natural tempo, without overpowering it, Nomad have created a camp with a light footprint. That’s not to say that it isn’t comfortable though. Six light and stylish safari rooms are complete with comfortable beds, en-suite indoor and outdoor bucket and flushing loos. The family tent has two en-suite bedrooms and an adjoining corridor which is zipped up at night to make it safe for little ones to reach their parents should they need to. They rest amongst the trees with views over the African bush. You will gather to share meals and relax under the cool grass thatch of the open-sided lounge and dining area which is furnished with hides and canvas, brought to life with a touch of colorful and tactile textiles, all inspired by the Maasai.
Gibbs Farm
Located on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater lies Gibb’s Farm. Founded in the 1920s as a coffee plantation, we embrace traditional East African hospitality with our roots extending deep into the land and our heritage here.
An idyllic retreat while exploring the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara national parks, as well as Lake Eyasi, on safari in Tanzania. Recline with a cup of freshly roasted coffee overlooking the Great Rift Valley in lush surroundings.
STANDING PROUD ABOVE THE PLAINS, AROUND A TUMBLE OF GIANT BOULDERS.
You can see from this outcrop, the Kogakuria Kopje, for miles and miles. Over a million wildebeest cross these plains on their way to dodge the jaws of death in the Mara River, just down the track. On the Lamai Wedge, bristling with mammals all year round, there’s never a dull moment. Above it all, our beautiful kopje is a sacred wildlife haven – and our mission is to act as its faithful guardians.
