But on safari, the early alarm call of nature is part of the experience. The epic allure of an African safari is matched only by the insanity of the continent’s beach destinations. To get the best of both worlds, since a honeymoon rarely feels complete without a little bit of sun and surf we plan your African honeymoon safari as a beach and bush combo.

Wildwaters Lodge

Located on roughly six hectares on Kalagala Island, Wildwaters Lodge lies on a unique private island mid-stream within the mighty River Nile in Uganda: around 25km downstream from Jinja in eastern Uganda. It’s in a sublime location and only reached by boat which makes it a very adventurous place to stay. It is uniquely perched on granite rocks with dramatic and exciting rapids roaring all around.

Activities on the river for guests in the nearby adventure hub of the Jinja area including heart-pounding white-water rafting or bungee jumping and gentler horse riding or fishing. Additionally, Wildwaters is a perfect platform for viewing some of the more than 1000 bird species that Uganda is so famous for – from turacos and cuckoos to hawks and eagles – and you might also spot giant otters and monitor lizards in the water.

The sounds on the mighty Nile are quite hypnotic and calming so Wildwaters offers an experience for all the senses. And for posting on Facebook or Instagram, nothing beats these views.

Wildwaters Lodge is open year-round affording guests the opportunity to enjoy this piece of paradise during all seasons.

Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge

Located in the middle of a verdant coffee plantation, Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge is a sanctuary of aromatic tranquility and a welcome retreat after a long international flight, or the dust and excitement of a thrilling bush safari.

Take residence in one of 30 luxury wooden chalets – 12 Plantation Suites and 18 Plantation Rooms – nestled amongst the surrounding gardens and sea of coffee trees.

Turning off the road, a tree-lined drive guides you to the warm and inviting main area with its quiet understated aura of luxury. Vibrant gardens, a spa, and a swimming pool await, and a restaurant, Bacchus, and café bistro, 3° South, boast menus to satisfy the most discerning of palates, successfully fusing international culinary prowess with locally-sourced ingredients.

Visitors are also welcome to enjoy convenient gift shopping at the Traders Walk Boutiques, located on site. Browse through a collection of five boutiques offering arts and crafts, jewellery, clothing, gourmet coffee and cakes and traditional Swahili food.

Kuro Tarangire

Kuro Tarangire is set amid a grove of Acacia and Kigelia trees close to the Tarangire River – often a dry, sandy course snaking through this quiet area of the park. The area sees the rhythmic movement of wildlife as it traverses the park from the hills in the west to the swamps on the eastern side.

Conscious of wanting to experience this place in a way that harmonises with the natural tempo, without overpowering it, Nomad have created a camp with a light footprint. That’s not to say that it isn’t comfortable though. Six light and stylish safari rooms are complete with comfortable beds, en-suite indoor and outdoor bucket and flushing loos. The family tent has two en-suite bedrooms and an adjoining corridor which is zipped up at night to make it safe for little ones to reach their parents should they need to. They rest amongst the trees with views over the African bush. You will gather to share meals and relax under the cool grass thatch of the open-sided lounge and dining area which is furnished with hides and canvas, brought to life with a touch of colourful and tactile textiles, all inspired by the Maasai.

Gibbs Farm

Located on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater lies Gibb’s Farm. Founded in the 1920s as a coffee plantation, we embrace traditional East African hospitality with our roots extending deep into the land and our heritage here.

An idyllic retreat while exploring the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara national parks, as well as Lake Eyasi, on safari in Tanzania. Recline with a cup of freshly roasted coffee overlooking the Great Rift Valley in lush surroundings.

Lamai Serengeti

After 20 years of being off-limits to touritss, the Namiri Plains in the eastern Serengeti is now home to a staggering density of big cats. The camp overlooks a river, and from its ten elegant tents – each with its own veranda and private outdoor bath – guests can enjoy expansive views of the wildlife that congregates at this water source. When the Great Migration moves into the area, the plains explode into action as big cats prey on the herds.

In 2014, the region reopened with Asilia appointed as its custodian. Guests can enjoy this incredible corner of the Serengeti from the comfort of the cool and elegant Namiri Plains. Expansive views, relaxed comfort, exceptional privacy, and unrivalled sightings of apex predators in a region of the Serengeti come together to give you an exclusive and action-packed safari experience.

Hotel Riu Palace
