OUR STORY

NDIFO: THE AUTHENTIC TANZANIAN SAFARI EXPERIENCE

We are one of the very few owned & operated by a native Tanzanian.

We believe that allows us to share a deep connection with this land & people with our guests.

We have generations of deep knowledge about East-African wildlife and local culture to share with you.

OUR FOUNDER

Steve Ngowi was born on the southern slope of Kilimanjaro and spent his entire life close to the bush and the wildlife in it. From age 6, his grandfather, safari guide Steven, raised him inside the safari life.

Both spent quite a bit of time with groups of professional British photographers who relied on Steven Sr.’s skill and expertise to help capture the images they sought. Ndifo means “Footsteps” in Steven’s native language, Chagaa. Steven’s dream has always been to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps, his ndifo.

Steven’s whole life has been dedicated to safari. It is an integral part of who he is. As the owner and lead guide of Ndifo Safari, he brings this specific knowledge and connection to all his guests. As a native Tanzanian who loves and appreciates the wild world around him, his focus for Ndifo is conservation and preservation of the natural gifts given to our care. That ideal helps form the cornerstone mission of our company.

MISSION & VALUES

We tailor make unique Tanzania experiences with perspectives not available from western owners & operators.

We founded the 501(c)(3) Ndifo Community Development Foundation, ensuring a portion of our profits always support our community.

NDIFO CAN PROVIDE THE FULL EXPERIENCE

Our guides are some of the few in East Africa to have achieved the walking guide qualification. This means that our guests may choose to experience the feeling of walking among the animals outside the confines of a vehicle.

Achieving this qualification requires at least 18 months of specialized training in the use of firearms and over 120 hours of supervised experience in the field. Having a qualified safari walking guide adds something extra for our guests, if that is something they choose to experience.
